Unconventional AI
Unconventional AI develops neuromorphic, analog computing hardware designed to run AI with far less power than digital chips.
The Company
Unconventional AI was founded in 2025 by Naveen Rao, who previously founded MosaicML, sold to Databricks for $1.3 billion, and Nervana Systems, sold to Intel. It aims to build analog, brain-inspired chips that could run AI with much lower energy use.
Just two months after launching, the company raised a $475 million seed round at a $4.5 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Lightspeed with Lux Capital, DCVC and Jeff Bezos participating. It was described as the first part of a raise that could reach $1 billion.
Why It Matters
Unconventional AI is one of the largest seed rounds ever and a read-through for investor appetite for new chip architectures that address AI's power problem.
