The Private Ledger began on April 28, 2026, to make private-market research accessible. These companies are often difficult to study: information is limited and the important details can be hard to find.
The aim is to understand businesses while they are still private, and follow the trends surrounding their move into public markets.
The ByteDance breakdown drew on more than 50 sources, including an off-the-record conversation with a Chinese lawyer and days spent researching Chinese websites. That depth of work reflects the publication’s approach to a market where information is rarely straightforward.
